ABOUT
Here at Star Ascend, we understand that children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) are unique and will require a bespoke approach to learning. We work in partnership with special schools, tutors and other professionals to provide tuition to children and young people, one-to-one or in small groups in a range of settings.

Our tuition service matches children and young people with the best-suited tutor, ensuring successful learning in even the most complex of cases. In school tuition is aimed at children and young people who struggle to stay in class due to sensory sensitivities, mental health issues, emotional dysregulation or very individual learning needs. Home tuition is aimed at children and young people who are educated within the home environment due to physical, social or emotional mobility restriction and learners who require additional support for a variety of reasons, and those who have been excluded, or who have self-excluded due to anxiety or mental health issues.


AIM
The successes of our children and young people with (SEND) is at the heart of what we do, and as such we value and embrace the individuality of every young person. We develop unique tutorial plans to suit their individual needs, strengths and areas for development. Our goal is to increase the confidence and self-esteem of our children and young people, whilst simultaneously providing children and young people with the support that they require to enable them to succeed and make progress in everything that they do.


APPROACH
On their first session, a young person receive a free assessment in order for our tutors to identify any additional needs, plan personalised support package based on individual needs, record the different or additional provision to be made for the young person, which includes teaching strategies, short-term targets, and target settings.

After their initial assessment, our tutors work with the schools, parents and other professionals to create an educational support plan that is tailored to each child's needs. Each young person will receive individual attention from our tutors within a group setting. There is no one size fits all approach to teaching and learning, our tutors are keen to adopt multiple methods to enable every child to flourish. Our tuition aims to provide a positive, engaging and inspiring learning experience for all our children and young people with SEND.


ASSE SSMENT OF PROGRESS
We believe effective, timely and target assessment of our children and young people's progress is critical to their success. Our tutors regularly evaluate the progress of each child, assessing the direction and pace of instruction and any related service supports needed to facilitate progress. We also write weekly reports and measure progress monthly; this is so that we can identify areas of lack and at what volume we need to increase certain aspects of the tuition and support.


SESSIONS
Sessions may take place in a variety of locations in the community such as libraries, home, school or college premises, or other appropriate setting as demanded by their parents/guardians, but within the local area. Sessions can also take place within an educational setting to increase engagement, ensure routine is maintained and pupils are in a learning environment that they are familiar with. We also offer part-time transition tuition services, which pupils from special schools can attend for a limited time to re-engage with learning and build confidence and trust. We help with integration back into classes, school or college system or to a new placement, enhancing the chance of successful reintegration.

REFERRALS
Special Schools, Pupil Referral Units (PRUs), Alternative Provisions, Further Education (FE), Residential Homes and all other related settings.
